DRC Backs New Facility for Running & Fitness in S18

Luke Prest

Dronfield Running Club has secured agreement with Dronfield Town Council to provide a new facility for running and fitness in Dronfield. The Town Council have kindly agreed to allow the running club use of the field to the rear of Dronfield Woodhouse Sports & Social Club, known locally as 'The Rec'. Locals will soon see a 6 lane, 400m running track marked into the existing grass field. The cost of the demarcation of the track has been funded by Dronfield RC using money raised from local events such as the Big Dipper Half Marathon.

The Big Dipper HM, hosted by Dronfield RC raises funds for investment in the community.

As a registered charity, Dronfield RC's overarching aim is the promotion and provision of running and related fitness activity in and around S18 and we are providing this facility for the benefit of the whole community. As such, use of the track is open for all - young and old. Anyone should feel free to use the field and the marked track at their own convenience - membership of Dronfield RC is not a requirement and no booking or permission is required - this is a facility for the whole town to use. Whilst this facility is low level in terms of scale and cost, we feel it compliments and builds on some of the existing sporting facilities in Dronfield. If the track proves popular and well utilised it is our hope that the provision and facilities at The Rec could be widened and enhanced for the community benefit.
