Dronfield RC are delighted to confirm that two of our athletes have been selected to represent England at Masters level.
Sue Atkinson at V50 and Kathryn Wileman at V70 both qualified for the much coveted England Vest at North Lincolnshire Half Marathon on Sunday 5th March 2023
To qualify, athletes must register their intent to compete in the qualification race and then finish under a designated time and also place in the top 3 positions within their age and gender category.
As England Masters only host a few qualification races annually, it draws the very best masters runners to those races, from all across the country. The field therefore is always jam packed with quality.
Sue finished 2nd V50 our of a field of 84 with a time of 01:27:06 and Kathryn finished 3rd V70 with a time of 02:09:36. Both of them were well under the qualification time and in the necessary podium spots.
On receiving the news, Sue (pictured above) said:
"I want to say a huge thank you. I would not have entered without people at DRC giving me the nudge. Thankyou very much for believing in me. Our club is an unbelievable one & I'm so thankful for it"
Kathryn, who only joined Dronfield in February this year, remarked:
"I’m a bit speechless really and so thrilled. I have entered the race already as I was so giddy when I got the email! I feel privileged to be part of such a great group and need to get myself to some DRC speed sessions!"
Everyone at Dronfield RC is immensely proud of Sue and Kathryn. Their achievements and performances at masters level are an inspiration to us all and we wish them the very best of luck as they go on to represent their country at Chester Half Marathon on 21st May 2023.
