Proposal for a Dronfield junior parkrun
Dronfield Running Club is hoping to bring a junior parkrun to the town to help encourage young people to keep active.
The weekly 2km run is proposed to take place at Sindelfingen Park and would bring a social and healthy activity to the town for people aged 4-14.
What is junior parkrun?
junior parkrun is a series of 2k runs for children aged 4-14 held in areas of open space across the UK.
They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. The courses are marshalled by volunteers so that juniors will be in sight of at least one marshal at all times.
It's not about how fast you are or how far you can run.
It's about enjoying yourself while taking part.
See more about them on the parkrun website here.

What are you proposing?
Dronfield Running Club proposes a weekly event at Sindelfingen Park to give young people in our community the chance to take part in a local, free and healthy running activity. It would take place every Sunday at 09:00, with most runners finishing in about 30 minutes.
The club will source the funding and will co-ordinate the volunteers. But we need the whole community to play a central role in making it a success. From supportive marshals to smiley barcode scanners, we need volunteers to help us put on events.
You can see more about those opportunities by clicking here.
You can see the proposed route, which is one small lap and two big laps of the park. It will take place on footpaths. We share the park with everyone else, so we're not closing anything and runners will always give way to other users.
This has been accurately measured by our local parkrun ambassador.

Why Sindelfingen Park?
A central location is vital to make this a success. A fully paved route means we can run the event all year round, and keeps the park prestine for others to enjoy.
Sindelfingen Park is big enough to not have endless loops, and, vitally, has almost 100 car parking spaces nearby (with thanks to the GP practice for offering their car park).
It's also within walking distance for hundreds of Dronfield children and parents.

What are you working on?
It's a team effort to make this work.
This starts with working with Dronfield Town Council to gain permission to use the park on a non-exclusive basis.
Offering healthy and active opportunities for young people is a common goal across the district and requires a community effort. That's why we're having positive conversations with key stakeholders, such as the council, to make this a success for everyone.
In August, we invited councillors to a similar event at Holmebrook Valley Park so they could see first-hand what a juinior parkrun offers kids, adults and the local community.
Dronfield Town Council's Parks and Rec Committee recommended our proposals for APPROVAL at the next Full Council meeting.
