The Big Dipper 2023: Results, Photos & Some Thank Yous!

Over 200 athletes took on Dronfield RC's The Big Dipper Half Marathon this weekend, traversing the brutal 13.1mi road course from Hill Top in Dronfield and through Barlow, Unthank and Cowley in warm and muggy conditions.

The race was won by Hallamshire Harriers' Dan Haworth in a time of 01:15:39.

Abbie Pearse of Steel City Striders took the female honours, setting a new course record of 01:28:27 in the process.

John Birch (Hallamshire), Julius Stromberg (Unattached), Nicola Squires (Hallamshire) and Nicola Holland (Unattached) made up the senior podium spots.

There were age category victories for Kieran McAuliffe (V40M), Sarah Messenger (V40F), Robert Dawson V50M, Jacqui Herring (V50F), Tim Clayton (V60M), Julie Heitus (V60F) and Paul Bland (V70M).

Each took home some wearable goodies alongside cash prizes ranging from £50 to £300, with the total prize fund handed out topping £1,150!

This was the second year we've hosted The Big Dipper and the event is gathering quite a reputation for it's friendly, supportive and energetic marshal team, who again lined the roads and made for a fantastic atmosphere.

We also couldn't do it without the fantastic local businesses who sponsor or support the race and the buy-in of residents who live on or around the route - many of whom were out in force on race day to add to the atmosphere. Our thanks go out to all of them and everyone else who played any part on event day.

A huge kudos and thank you also goes to our organizing committee who yet again, and to nobody's surprise, saw their efforts result in another incredible day that ran seamlessly from start to finish.

Our biggest thank you goes out to everyone who ran. We make no secret of it being a grueller but we hope your efforts were paid back tenfold in views, vibe, kudos, charisma and a sense of achievement - well done to ALL of you.

We'll be back in 2024. A date has yet to be set but pencil it in for early September again.
