On Wednesday 23rd June, running clubs from across the whole region awoke from their COVID-19 enforced hibernation and descended on Rother Valley Country Park for the first team event in what seems like forever.

Dronfield RC fielded a total of 9 teams, across various age and gender categories and put on a very strong showing across the board.

DRC Senior Mens A team were pipped by Hallamshire Harriers A & B but held off their C team to take 3rd place. Congratulations to Liam Turner, Kristoff Boynton, Chris Bevan and Tom Shaw who made up that team.

The DRC Ladies A Team of Hannah Walker, El Rose & Gillian Allen finished in a very respectable 6th place.

Our V45 Ladies of Kirsty Denton, Lindsey Crowson and Sarah Sanderson come home in 7th place.

The glory, as far as DRC were concerned however, was reserved for our Mixed team, who finished in top spot, some 13 minutes in front of second place. Congratulations to Emma Connelly, Stu Carrack, Collete Gains and Phil Skelton, who made up that team.

A special mention is reserved for Adam Connelly who, due to a late drop out, ended up running two barnstorming legs in the Mens v40 Team.

All in all, it was a fantastic event and Dronfield RC would like to extend our thanks to our hosts, Hillsborough & Rivelin RC, and our congratulations to everyone who competed and took the podium places.

Racing, in an increasingly 'normal' format, has been trickling back for a few weeks now but given this was a well attended team event it provided a fantastic and long overdue opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with friends in different vests from right across the patch and lock horns again in good natured and competitive racing.
